i love india for this. people always pick on me because i have naturally long and wavy hair and they always say that it makes me not black and even though i laugh it off it get really offensive, especially when some of them try to cut it off!

    Cont’d – And if I …
Cont’d – And if I want to wear locs, it does not mean that I think I am more ‘black’ or whatever word you want to use, than the woman that wants to wear her hair straight or get a weave…You do you, and let me do me, we are all ‘the soul that lives within’ regardless of race, creed, or color!!

    Peace and Blessings!

    The part that …
The part that everyone posting comments on this page seems to be that there were people in this video of all ethnicities and various hair styles – straight, locs, curly, wavy – she even put on a couple of wigs…

The point it to accept yourself for who you are..wear your hair the way you want, and stop judging others!

We (black folk) judge each other as harshly as other races do! If I want to wear my hair straight, it does not mean that I don’t want to be black, and vice versa

    The video and song …
The video and song “I am not my hair” lyrics is how I feel and how most women should feel. You should and cannot be judged by your hair. (Designer clothes you wear, car you drive and where you live). Indie is trying to say except people for the way they are. Judge a person from what’s on the inside not outside. Good positive messages in her songs.

  • shrbyrd4 says:

    I think India Irie …
I think India Irie is one of the most creative, original and intelligent female singers today. She is to music like Maya Angelo is to poetry and reminds me of what Nina Simone used to sing about.
I also loved Akon lyrics in his version of her song. I am happy that young women consider her a role model.
I know India used to perform with one of my other favorite singers “Sade”.
